Medicaid
Medicaid is a state and federally funded healthcare program that provides health care coverage to eligible low-income and medically vulnerable people. Ohio’s Medicaid program provides a wide array of medical benefits including doctor visits, prescriptions, prenatal, and preventive care.
Programs within Medicaid have been designed to serve certain groups of people who are in need of healthcare services. LCJFS determines eligibility for Medicaid programs that provide health care coverage to individuals with low-income, pregnant women, infants and children, older adults and individuals with disabilities.
People who are eligible for Medicaid may also be eligible for transportation assistance to and from medical appointments.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility requirements vary from program to program within Medicaid. To find out if you, your family, or a relative may be eligible, call 1-844-640-6446, apply online, or fill out an application in person.
Healthchek
Ohio’s Medicaid program includes Healthchek services for children up to 21 years of age. Healthchek is a program of well-child prevention and treatment services provided through Ohio’s Medicaid program. Healthchek focuses on helping all children, including those with disabilities, get and stay healthy. Healthchek services are free.
Doctors encourage parents to ensure their children have regular well-child check-ups (exams or screenings) to identify potential health problems and address them early. Check-ups covered by Healthchek include:
Dental exams
Developmental screenings
Hearing exams
Immunizations, if needed
Mental health screenings
Physical exams
Vision exams
Nutrition screenings
Mothers should have prenatal exams and children should have exams at: birth, 3 to 5 days of age, and at 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24, and 30 months of age. After that, children should have at least one exam per year. All children should have tests for lead poisoning.
